Senate Committee meets on telecom

The Senate Business and Commerce Committee met yesterday - the video is archived here The focus was on a statewide video franchise for phone companies, and additional telecom deregulation. Municipal broadband was not on the table.

The telecom bills can't pass unless Governor Perry officially includes telecom in the charter for the special session.

Given the school finance crisis, we still don't understand why the legislature is taking up telecom reform right now. If you agree, please call the Governor Perry's office at 800-252-9600, and ask him to keep the legislative focus on the school finance, and avoid distractions like telecom reform.
